Mary Ayling is a visual artist working at the intersection of sculpture and performance. Inspired by the complexity of personal relationships, she uses a material vocabulary of weight, volume and transparency to untangle common relational issues such as empathy, loss and misunderstanding. Creating conceptual objects and installations, her works manifest as sculptural relics, carefully choreographed interactions, and visual artifacts.
Ayling received her MFA from the University of Michigan (2015) and her BFA in glass and print media from the Columbus College of Art and Design (2005). She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
